South West Florida International Airport (also known as Fort Myers Airport; airport code = RSW) RSW  is the nearest major airport to Fort Myers Beach - less than 20 miles away! (see our location map)

The following discount airlines serve Fort Myers or other "local" airports (e.g. Fort Lauderdale, MiamiTampa or Orlando).

If you go to a "local" airport, although they are 130-150 miles  away (about 2.5-3 hours drive; Orlando is a bit further at about 220 miles), the roads are good (I-75) and it is typically much cheaper to hire a car and drive than use the local air connection.

 The Calusa Nature Centre and Planetarium Another interesting conservation / wildlife centre near Fort Myers Beach

Visit the fascinating Shell Museum on nearby Sanibel Island I have not been but my visitors say it is good. Situated just before Ding Darling Reserve.

The Ostego Bay Foundation - Marine Science Education Center It is not a big place but packed with information about the marine life in the area. Great for kids - and I learn something new every time I take my son.

I have slipped this one in here as Bonita Bill's is right opposite the Ostego Bay Foundation. Nothing special but it is on bay right next to all the boats. And it is more down to earth and friendly than fighting for a seat at the Waffle House.

C.R.O.W. - Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife Fascinating wild animal treatment centre right opposite the Ding Darling Reserve on Sanibel. Very limited tour times!
If you are a fisherman, it is certainly worth a pilgrimage to this place to understand the DOs & DON'Ts of fishing and what to do if you unfortunately hook a bird.

The Children's Science Center Another fascinating place for the kids in nearby North Fort Myers - even grown up kids like me learnt something new!

Everglades and Fossil Tours There are several short free tours in the area which are fascinating. This guy is professional and I know nothing about him except that I am told that there are many easy to find fossils if you know where to look!

Some information on Florida's Birds, Beasts, Snakes, Flowers, etc I have only seen 4 varieties of snakes - all non-poisonous!

You can see the shuttle launches from the Condos if you look in a north-east direction towards Cape Canaveral.

Visit the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Center on Cape Canaveral and tour along the Space Coast and other parts of Florida It is about a 4-5 hour drive to Cape Canaveral but well worth it!

If you want to see the local area from the water, there are several canoe trails with both private and Parks equipment rentals. We have tried a few and had a fun time. We have also seen many people fishing from their canoes.

Roy Hobbs Baseball Tournament

We have had several guests attend the Roy Hobbs Baseball Tournament. This is a huge annual amateur baseball tournament held in Fort Myers every year, typically around October / November. Exact dates depend on which division you play in.
